Joy went down!
She can’t be found!
Dead and drowned,
She’s lying on the bottom,
The very bottom,
Of the Sea of Me!
Beneath the deep, the very deep
Dark-deep stormy waters of I,
That’s where Joy died;
Swept away by selfish waves,
Caught in the undertow of I:
I want, I need, I must have!
I will! I won’t! I hurt! I hate!
And I don’t care!
I, I, I, I, I!
Yes, Joy went down!
She can’t be found!
She’s dead and drowned,
She’s lying on the bottom,
The very bottom,
Of the Sea of Me!
Reminds me of the parable in Luke 12:16-20. The “I wills” killed the “The Rich Fool.” The “I’s” are killers of Joy and all of life. Good post, Pam! 🙂

Fantastic poem. Simple, direct, and thought-provoking. Yes, yes, yes!

Thank you, Jacob! Another commenter on google+ said it was “just dumb, the whole thing, just dumb” lol! Of course, your opinion means much more to me. I think the other guy is drowning in the Sea of Me.:0)

Hahaha! I believe the modern catch phrase is, “haters gonna hate.” The world is filled with critics and not enough heroes. Rise and shine, Pam. 😉

Please let’s look for joy. We might still be able to resuscitate her. Lovely and dark at the same time 🙂

Imagine a scuba diver lighting the ocean floor and then sees you lying there, keeping yourself warm with the fins of a Manta Ray. You open your eyes (because you still have your goggles and your Hollis Prism 2 Rebreather) and the diver takes off his mask and says, “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world!”
