Choosing Love Produces Joy

From the time we are conceived and born our survival depends upon love. Our emotional need for love is as basic as our body’s need for food and water. Infants who don’t receive love simply, die. Some children receive enough loving care to survive but children won’t thrive unless, they are raised in an atmosphere of love. However, even the most loving parents aren’t able to completely satisfy the common human hunger for love. Within everyone there is a lack-in-self crying out to be satiated by divine love.

God is love. Those known by God are completely filled, to the depths of their souls, by God’s unconditional love. This is the only kind of love that totally gratifies the emotional hunger human beings have for love. This perfect love is more than emotional bond, it is God in action; His active choice to love the children He created despite their rebellious hearts and acts. When by divine love, Father God put wrath aside and set out to save His children and His Creation from the ravages of sin and death. Then His divine love came down, in the form of His true, begotten Son, to die in sacrificial love and rise to live again! This loving choice to love sinful human beings to the uttermost, blesses those who live by faith with everlasting joy!

Those who receive and enjoy such radical love will never be the same. Saved by love and transformed by love, believers must also, choose to love unconditionally. Brotherly love, from the seat of choice not emotion, is the quality of love able to change the world. The same divine love received by faith in Jesus is to be given to those of like mind and heart but also, to those who still hunger for the God who is love. Hearts grown hard by the gnawing need to be loved may never open to receive God’s love but those believers who choose to love unconditionally, as they themselves are loved, are blessed by ever-increasing joy! Even when those whom believers choose to love, never love them back and never turn to God. The choice to love is the only right choice for those filled and satisfied by God’s love. The true believer is marked by their ability to love as God loves.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

    1. Isn’t it great what real forgiveness can do? It’s a process and sometimes, it takes awhile to get there but there’s no better way than “it is finished” and love is so much easier and healthier than hate!
